Irish Guide Dogs For The Blind

Irish Guide Dogs is Ireland’s national charity dedicated to helping people who are vision impaired and families of children with autism to achieve improved mobility and independence.

Our core purpose

To enable people with sight loss and families of children with autism to lead better lives, become more independent and more mobile.

Our mission

To provide the highest quality of services in partnership with our clients while planning for the future and valuing clients, Volunteers and each other.

Our funding

We receive over 85% of our income through voluntary donations and fundraising through a network of Volunteers across the country.  It will cost over €5 million to run our organisation this year.

Our headquarters

Our National Headquarters and Training Centre is located on the Model Farm Road two miles outside Cork City. All our training program’s are run at this location. Some of our courses last up to three weeks, with clients staying at the Centre for the duration of their training. Full aftercare is provided for all clients in their homes and communities.

Fighting Blindness

Fighting Blindness was established in 1983 and is an Irish patient-led charity with a vision to cure, support and empower the visually impaired.  Funding world-leading research into treatments and cures for blindness, while caring for people and families through counselling as well as peer to peer support services. Through education and advocacy working tirelessly to empower the 246,773 people in Ireland living with blindness or vision impairment.

Vision Sports Ireland

Vision Sports Ireland is a not for profit organisation and registered charity, founded in 1988. They are unique in that they’re the only organisation in Ireland solely dedicated to promoting sport and recreation for vision impaired people. They’re also the officially registered National Governing Body (NGB) for sport for vision impaired people in Ireland.

ChildVision

ChildVision stems back as far as the 1800’s and was assigned to the Rosminian Order in 1955 by the then Archbishop. It’s the only place in Ireland totally dedicated to the education and therapy needs of blind and multi-disabled children. Throughout this century of care and learning, thousands of children with sight loss and other profound disabilities have bravely overcome their obstacles and grown up to reach their full potential, guided by our expertise and support. They look after children from all over Ireland ranging in age from birth to 23 years of age.
